Discover Dalat

I think maybe because Dalat is in the mountains that we could go hiking in the mountains…like in Sapa…but Dalat is on top of the mountain so there were only literally hills around the town!

Discover Dalat

Got the bus to Dalat this morning. There was not enough space underneath this (yet again) bockity bus so it was put on the back seat. With not enough seats on the bus one poor fella had to sqeeze in amonst the luggage. The journey took an extra hour or so than we were told….not good! Dalat is a french influneced town 1,475 meters in elevation. So most of the drive was up the side of the mountains….lovely scenery. Torrential rain fell for about an hour but just cleared up as we arrived into Dalat. After checking into the hotel (which is only open a year and the best room we’ve had on our trip…so far) we strolled around the town. It was not as I expected. I think maybe because Dalat is in the mountains that we could go hiking in the mountains…like in Sapa…but Dalat is on top of the mountain so there were only literally hills around the town! There was a big temperature drop (as expected) from the heat in Nha Trang.

Discover Dalat

There is a great buzz around the town. A large market is the central attraction with everything from fruit to flowers. A mini-Eiffel tower can be seen at the end of the town. This is actually a communications tower. There is an obvious french influence about the place. At dinner I tried the local speciality….strawberry wine which was quite tasty but it would be along the lines of the strong rice wine.
