Dalat Hill Town

We departed from Nha Trang at 7:30am for the 6 hour bus ride to Dalat, which is a town in the central highlands area of Vietnam. The area is up in the hills and is a bit cooler than along the beaches, but we still had our hats and gloves from Sapa, so we were prepared for the cooler temps!!

After multiple stops along our route, we finally arrived into Dalat about 3:30pm. The busses (since they are associated through a tour company and hotel) dropped us off at their “recommended” hotel. Jeremy took a look at the room and decided we could do better for the price they were requesting. There was a young lady waiting on the other side of the bus and showed us pictures of her hotel, which was new. She seemed sweet and the hotel was close by, so we walked with her to the hotel. Since it had just opened three months before, the hotel was amazing and even smelled new still! We checked in and decided to walk to the market square in search of lunch. We had a bite to eat and then after wards, we walked through the market and purchased some gummy candy!

Dalat Hill Town

On Sunday , we decided to walk to a few of the sights of Dalat that were nearby and situated around a lake. We first visited the flower garden. We believe they had a flower show just before we arrived, but aren’t sure. The town of Dalat has numerous greenhouses throughout the area, which we believe is well-known for its flowers. As we were walking through the various greenhouses within the flower garden, we thought of Jeremy’s mom who has a beautiful backyard garden of her own and would have appreciated the flowers of Dalat. After wards, we continued our way around the lake to the Dalat Railway station. The French had built a railway up to Dalat but the line is no longer used except for a 7km stretch used for tourists. The line goes to a temple and pagoda in the neighboring town. We had about an hour to explore the temple before the train headed back to Dalat. Upon our return, we had a quick shake before setting off around the lake and back to the market square. After two nights in Dalat, we headed off to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) on Monday morning!
